More than 100 Teachers in Assam Plea to President for 'Mercy Killing'

GUWAHATI: More than 100 teachers in Assam’s Sivasagar district have requested President Ram Nath Kovind’s permission for death through mercy killing.

The teachers have written a letter to the President of India as well as the Assam Governor in the concerned matter. Over 1500 teachers have been deprived of their salaries for the last eight years in a row.

Addressing the matter, General Secretary of the Association, Basanta Neog said that, "The government has not done anything to regularise the appointments of the teachers of the Lower Primary schools and has failed miserably in resolving the matter in the last eight years."

Estimating further Neog said that 12,000 teachers across the state have been deprived of their salaries till date. Adding further, Neog said that, “Be it previous Congress government or the present BJP-led state government – all are least bothered in solving the issue.”

The Sivasagar teachers association on January 6, 2020 had written to the Chief Minister, Finance Minister and the then Education Minister of the state to come up with a solution to the problem within January 20, 2020.
