GUWAHATI: Several villages in Assam are facing a growing crisis as increasing numbers of monkeys invade farmlands, leaving farmers unable to cultivate their crops. The situation has become so severe that concerns are rising over its potential impact on rural communities.
Raising the issue in the Assam Assembly, Mrinal Saikia, MLA of Khumtai called for urgent intervention, urging the government to categorise the monkey menace as a disaster under the Disaster Management Department. He stressed that villagers, once dependent on farming, are now struggling due to relentless monkey invasions.
Subsequently, the monkey menace has created trouble in many parts of Guwahati such as Kumarpara, Sarania, Kamakhya Gate, Maligaon, and various other regions. Tree cutting and encroachments are likely to be the reasons for monkeys invading the city areas.
