Meet Rameswar Teli, the lone MP from Assam in Modi's new ministry

GUWAHATI: Rameswar Teli is the only MP from Assam to have received a position in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s new ministry. 

He has been appointed as Minister of State in the Ministry of Food Processing Industries. 

Teli will be working under senior leader, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Minister of Food Processing Industries.

He was sworn-in on May 30 for his new position at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi along with the other 56 cabinet ministers. 

Teli was first elected to the Assam legislative assembly from Duliajan assembly constituency in 2001 and then won again in 2006. He lost in 2011. He defeated Congress heavyweight and former Union minister Paban Singh Ghatowar in 2014 and 2019 from Dibrugarh parliamentary seat. 

He is a student leader-turned-politician, who is known for his strong connection with his people and still resides in a mud house. He started his public life as leader of the All Assam Tea Student Association.
