Mobile Vans To Sell Vegetables At Subsidized Rates

The Assam State Agriculture Marketing Board (ASAMB) has decided to set up mobile vans to supply vegetables at subsidized rates within the city. The initiative has been taken as a solution to the rising vegetable prices in the recent times.

Official sources said that the board will purchase the vegetables through its registered grower societies spread across several districts of the state. "An additional transportation cost will be added to it, which should come to around Rs 1-2 per kg. The consumer will not have to pay any extra charge," said an official source.

The mobile vans in the initial stage will be placed in busy areas like Beltola, Ganeshguri, Chandmari, Maligaon etc. Depending on the demand of the market, more vans will be placed in the city with time.

The board also has set eight ‘Krishak Dukans’ in the city, but only four are functional as present.

It is to be noted that vegetable prices have increased drastically after the floods have affected the parts of the state. The Food & Civil Supplies Department is responsible for monitoring the prices of commodities.
