GUWAHATI: News of a missing rickshaw puller from Mangaldai found inside a jail in Bangladesh has created stir among the public here in Assam.
As per reports, the whereabouts of the missing man, identified as Mukul Hazarika, has come to light following a letter issued recently by the Deputy High Commissioner of India at Bangladesh.
Indian Deputy High commissioner at Dhaka, Biswadip Dey, via a letter informed the principal secretary of home and political department that one Mukul Hazarika, son of Phuleswar Hazarika of village Hodapara under Mangaldai Police Station in Darrang district was lodged in Feni Jail in Bangladesh even after completion of his stipulated jail term.

After receiving the letter on May 7, the Deputy Commissioner of Darrang had immediately asked the police to verify the identity of the person.
Speaking to media, Phuleswar Hazarika, father of the jailed rickshaw puller said, “My 40-year-old son has been earning his livelihood as a rickshaw puller in Janaram chowka area. The day he went missing, he had gone to that area riding my bicycle. We didn’t hear from him after that”.
It is to be mentioned that the family members of Mukul Hazarika are clueless as to why he had been held captive in Bangladesh and what he was doing in the neighbouring country. Hazarika's family members have now appealed to the District Administration and the Government of Assam to make all the necessary arrangements to bring him back to Mangaldai.
