GUWAHATI: A female mid-day meal cook was allegedly murdered by her brother-in-law on Sunday at No. 171 Vivekananda LP School in the Karimganj district of Assam.
The victim, identified as Mousumi Paul, was reportedly killed on the school premises when she was engaged in a conversation with a teacher.
As per the information, her brother-in-law, Pinku Paul, forcibly entered the school premises and mercilessly stabbed her with a sharp weapon. After the assailant fled the scene, teachers and locals rushed Mousumi Paul to the Ramkrishna Nagar health centre.
The incident was confirmed by the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Ramkrishna Nagar Police Station.
Due to the severity of her condition, plans were made to transfer her to Hailakandi Civil Hospital for further medical attention, reports stated. She succumbed to her injuries en route to the hospital.
Upon receiving the news of the incident, the police from Ramkrishna Nagar Police Station dispatched a team to the crime scene to initiate an investigation.
The primary suspect, Pinku Paul, was apprehended soon after, and the weapon believed to have been used in the crime have also recovered by the police, the police official confirmed.
