Meena Longjam's ‘Andro Dreams’ Selected for 13th Iran International FICTS Festival

 

GUWAHATI: Manipur filmmaker Meena Longjam's `Andro Dreams’ continues its international journey after being selected for the prestigious 13th Iran International FICTS Festival which is part of the Federation Internationale Cinema Television Sportifs network; the festival also doubles as a gateway into the Milan World Competition, thus assuring films values such as unity, perseverance, and fair play.

‘Andro Dreams’ unfolds through the eyes of Laibi, an elderly woman from the remote village of Andro who maintains an all-girl football club under the most adverse circumstances. The film proved to be quite strong and promising for its revelatory characterisations of Laibi defying economic hardship as well as social circumstances with her assertive team of football players. Cultural pride and female empowerment in addition to the potential that sports harbour to change lives is what the story carries.

The selection for the 13th Iran International FICTS Festival followed after the documentary's premiere at Aswan International Women's Film Festival in Egypt where Longjam was also a participant.

‘Andro Dreams’ has been a part of several flagship international events, including the International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala, the International Ethnographic Film Festival in Seoul, Korea, Jagran Film Festival in Mumbai, and they won the Best Documentary award. It opened the non-feature category at Indian Panorama 2023 while showcasing during IFFI, Goa, and got them an Honorable Mention at FICFUSA 2023 in Colombia.
‘Andro’ Dreams was also screened in New Delhi during the IAWRT Asian Women Film Festival 2024 and in the 10th Kolkata People's Film Festival 2024.
