The airstrikes come amid heightened tensions as Hezbollah continues to support its ally Hamas

In a video statement, he emphasised that residents could return safely once the military operation was complete. The Israeli military also announced it had struck 800 Hezbollah targets across Lebanon, expanding its operations to the Bekaa Valley, near Lebanon's eastern border.

Their airstrikes come amid heightened tensions as Hezbollah continues to support its ally Hamas. Recent events have marked a shift in Israel's focus, which had been primarily directed at Hamas in Gaza for nearly a year.

In response to the escalating conflict, the United States is deploying additional troops to the Middle East, while the Biden administration is urging restraint and calling for a diplomatic resolution to the Israel-Lebanon crisis. U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin reiterated this position in talks with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, stressing that outside actors should not interfere.

Amid the violence, Iran has acted by launching over 300 missiles and drones at Israel, although the latter's advanced defense systems have limited the damage. The Middle-Eastern conflict, which began on October 7, 2023 continues to pose significant risks of further escalation.
