GUWAHATI: Following the heavy rain on Saturday morning, a massive mudslide resulted in the blockage of the road near the Sonapur tunnel on National Highway No. 6.
Meghalaya police have reportedly informed the public about the situation, urging commuters to remain vigilant while efforts are underway to clear the affected area.
According to the Meghalaya police, the road near the tunnel has been completely blocked, hindering the movement of vehicles. The mudslide occurred on Saturday morning, triggered by the intense rain that lashed the region, reports stated.
Authorities have assured the public that necessary measures are being taken to clear the debris and restore normalcy as soon as possible.
The East Jaintia Police took to Facebook to update citizens about the situation and posted, "Update on NH 06” along with a video of the situation.
“There has been Mudslide at Sonapur Tunnel on NH06 which occurred this morning of 27/05/2023. The Road near the Tunnel is currently blocked, but efforts are underway to clear the same. Commuters are advised to be alert,” the post read.
