GUWAHATI: Northeast India has seen 12 individuals being honoured in the Padma Awards 2025 for their contributions in diverse fields, including art, literature, social work, and agriculture.

The awardees, approved by President Droupadi Murmu, were mentioned on the eve before Republic Day, to be celebrated on Sunday, January 26.
Assam stood out with five recipients: Jatin Goswami (Art), Anil Kumar Boro (Literature and Education), Gita Upadhyay (Literature and Education), Joynacharan Bathari (Art), and Reba Kanta Mahanta (Art).
Other awardees from the region include Arunoday Saha (Tripura, Literature and Education), David R. Syiemlieh (Meghalaya, Literature and Education), Jumde Yomgam Gamlin (Arunachal Pradesh, Social Work), and L. Hangthing (Nagaland, Agriculture).
Additionally, Naren Gurung (Sikkim, Art), Renthlei Lalrawna (Mizoram, Literature and Education), and Thiyam Suryamukhi Devi (Manipur, Art) have been recognised for their contributions too.

The awards are categorised into three tiers: Padma Vibhushan for exceptional service, Padma Bhushan for distinguished service of high order, and Padma Shri for excellence in various disciplines.
