Market Cheer: Sensex Almost Breaching Historic 50,000-Mark

GUWAHATI: Riding high on budget proposals, Sensex continued its winning rally and gained more than 1,000 points in the early morning trade and might as well cross the mark of 50,000 points.

At 10:30 am, the S&P BSE index was trading at 49,732.58 going up by 1131 points compared to its previous close.

Reacting to the Union Budget, the Sensex zoomed past 2,314.84 points or 5 per cent to finish at 48,600.61 yesterday. It’s the biggest single day gain for Sensex on a budget day.

Investors are enthused after the government decided to open up the insurance sector. Privatization of two nationalized banks, cut in corporate tax also added to the market cheer.
