Manipuri To Be Associate Official Language In Cachar, Karimganj, Hailakandi And Hojai Districts

 

GUWAHATI: The Assam cabinet, in its meeting on February 23, approved key decisions pertaining to the recognition of Manipuri as an associate official language.

The cabinet has granted approval to the Assam Official Language (Amendment) Bill, 2024, which seeks to recognize Manipuri as an Associate Official Language in four districts of the state - Cachar, Karimganj, Hailakandi, and Hojai.

The proposed amendment, which will insert a new Section 5B into the Assam Official Language Act, 1960, is aimed at formalizing the status of Manipuri language in these districts.
