Maligaon Flyover To Be Inaugurated on August 28, Zoo Road In October

GUWAHATI: The much-awaited completion of the construction of Maligaon flyover is almost going to be completed soon and the flyover will be inaugurated on August 28.

A source in Public Works Department (PWD – Roads) talking to G Plus said that the work is going in full swing and the flyover will be inaugurated on August 28.

During an event in Kalakshetra today, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also echoed the same information, reported media.

The PWD source also informed that the Zoo Road flyover will be completed by October but the date for the inauguration is not yet decided.

The initial completion date of the Maligaon flyover project was set on March 29, 2023.

But, because of several factors, the construction process got delayed, and the recent announcement of the inauguration on August 28, has come as a big relief for the commuters.

Quoting officials of the Assam Public Works Department (PWD) – Roads, G Plus on March 18 this year had reported that the Maligaon flyover will be inaugurated before Durga Puja this year. "Unlike other major infrastructure projects, the delay in the construction of the flyover was not because of any holdup in the land acquisition process. Only five lessa lands were acquired for the construction of the Maligaon flyover," said the PWD source.

"It got delayed because many plans for the construction of the flyover had to be realigned and modified," said the source adding that for raising the pillars of the flyover arm towards the Pandu, the site took a long time as there were both over-ground and underground electrical cables, and the contractors of the flyover took extra care not to damage them.

The Maligaon Flyover is being constructed by Shree Gautam Construction Co Ltd and Anupam Nirman Pvt Ltd (JV).

Along the AT Road, there will be four lanes and the total length of the flyover will be 2630.00 metres.

The width of the flyover along AT Road is 16.60 metres.

The extended arm of the flyover towards Pandu Ghat will be of two lanes.

The budget of the Maligaon Flyover is ₹420.75 crore.

PWD came under criticism when many mishaps were reported for the construction work of the Maligaon and Zoo Road flyovers.

A few people were also injured in the mishaps the PWD did not take any action against the contractors.

The budget of the Zoo Tiniali Flyover at RGB Road has gone up because the length of the flyover has increased, said the source.

Originally, the length was 580.00 metres and the revised length is 2293.00 metres.

Along Zoo Road, there will be three lanes in the flyover and two lanes along Mother Teresa Road.

The width of the flyover along Zoo Road is 11.50 metres and on Mother Teresa Road it is 8.50 metres.

July 2023 was the estimated completion time for the Zoo Road flyover but now the deadline is extended to October this year.
