Mahabaleshwar beats Cherrapunji to become the 2nd wettest place this season

GUWAHATI: Mahabaleshwar in Maharashtra, which received profuse rain this monsoon, beats Cherrapunji to be the second wettest place after Mawsynram this season.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) data revealed that the hill station in the state of Maharashtra received a staggering 5661.6 mm rainfall this season till now, much more than Cherrapunji's 4735 mm.

According to A K Srivastava, head of climate monitoring and analysis at IMD said that this monsoon too, rainfall has been below normal over northeast India, while it has been quite good over central India and the west coast.
