GUWAHATI: The Assam Cabinet, in its meeting on January 1, 2024, has taken a crucial decision to propose the inclusion of the Madahi community under the Kachari tribe.

The proposal aims to submit a recommendation to the Government of India for the incorporation of the Madahi community at serial no. 5 of the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list in Assam.

It's important to note that this inclusion pertains to the entire state, encompassing the Bodoland Territorial Region while excluding the autonomous districts of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao.

The decision acknowledges the cultural and historical identity of the Madahi community within the broader framework of the Kachari tribe.

Once the proposal is submitted and, if approved, it would result in official recognition and representation for the Madahi community within the ST list.
