Lovlina Borgohain Advances To Asian Games Boxing Final, Secures Spot For Paris 2024 Olympics

GUWAHATI: Assam’s renowned boxer Lovlina Borgohain secured a place in the finals of the women's 75kg boxing event at the Asian Games which is being held in Hangzhou, China. In a commanding semi-final bout, Borgohain, an Olympic medallist and world champion, clinched a unanimous decision victory over Thailand's Baison Maneekon, earning her a spot in the gold medal match scheduled for tomorrow.

Throughout the match, Borgohain effectively utilised her height advantage to evade her opponent's attacks while countering with precise hooks. Her defensive discipline remained impeccable, ultimately ensuring her passage to the gold medal bout.

Notably, Borgohain's remarkable win also secured her a quota for the Paris 2024 Olympics. The boxing events at the Asian Games 2023 serve as qualifiers for the upcoming Paris Olympics.

However, it's essential to highlight that the selection of athletes for the Paris 2024 Games ultimately depends on the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of their respective countries. India has already made its mark in boxing at the Asian Games 2023, with Nikhat Zareen, Preeti Pawar, Parveen Hooda, and now Borgohain securing Paris 2024 quotas.
