Lat Mandal Apprehended For Alleged Bribery In Bongaigaon

 

GUWAHATI: An government official was apprehended on the alleged charges of bribery at the Circle Office in Bongaigaon on December 11.

A complaint lodged at the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam, exposed an alleged case of corruption involving an individual identified to be Sudhir Kumar Paul, Lat Mandal at the Circle Officer's office in Bongaigaon Revenue Circle, Bongaigaon. 

The complainant accused Paul of demanding a bribe of ₹40,000 for mutation-related work.

Unwilling to succumb to bribery, the complainant approached the Directorate, seeking legal action against Paul, the public servant in question. Subsequently, a team from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, (DVAC), Assam conducted a trap operation on December 11, at the office of the Circle Officer in Bongaigaon. 

Sudhir Kumar Paul was apprehended red-handed as he accepted ₹4,000 as part of the demanded bribe. The tainted money was immediately recovered from his possession and seized in the presence of independent witnesses.

Based on substantial evidence against the accused public servant, the DVAC’s team proceeded to arrest Sudhir Kumar Paul.

A case has been officially registered in the ACB Police Station today,  under ACB P.S. Case No. 106/2023, citing section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018).

Further legal proceedings are being undertaken.
