GUWAHATI: The Bharalumukh Police has exposed a complex web of deceit involving the alleged manipulation of land records in Guwahati.
The case was registered based on an FIR filed by Dushmanta Medhi, linking the fraud to a prime plot of land measuring 3 kathas 10 Lechas.
The FIR highlights a convoluted sequence of events surrounding the ownership of a valuable plot of land initially bequeathed through a registered will by the late Subhadra Medhi to Biro Bhadra Medhi.
The case unfolds with Pradip Kumar Das producing an allegedly fabricated Sale Deed, claiming ownership of the same land.
The authenticity of the Sale Deed produced by Pradip Kumar Das was rigorously examined, revealing it to be a false document fraudulently uploaded in the Sub-Registrar's software system. The Fee Book from the Sub-Registrar's office of Kamrup (Metro) was seized, indicating no mention of the alleged Sale Deed. The Deputy Registrar confirmed the Sale Deed to be fake.
Lat Mandal Ratneswar Das, allegedly involved in the fraudulent mutation, was arrested. During interrogation, he implicated the then Circle Officer in directing the favouring of Pradip Kumar Das in the mutation process.
The investigation also revealed irregularities in the then Circle Officer Lakhyajit Duwaria's observations. He claimed Dushmanta Medhi had no connection with the recorded pattadar, creating a surprising discrepancy in the order sheet.
The Circle Officer mentioned a holding number belonging to Guwahati Municipality Corporation, which, upon verification, did not align with the actual plot in question, indicating a serious flaw in the mutation process.
It was unveiled that Pradip Kumar Das conspired with land broker Tapash Choudhury to obtain fake land documents. Das, in turn, sold the fraudulently acquired land to Sarita Devi Jain for a substantial sum. Not only Pradip Kumar Das and Tapash Choudhury but also Sangeet Jain, son of the purchaser, were arrested for their involvement in the alleged fraud.
Based on evidence collected, the former Circle Officer Lakhyajit Duwaria has been arrested, revealing a suspected collusion with the fraudsters. The investigation is ongoing, with further probes into the intricate details of the fraud expected to unfold.
