Kin of Deceased of Hooch Tragedy Face Pyre Wood Crisis, Resorted to Bury Instead

GUWAHATI: The families of the victims who died in what has become the worst hooch tragedy in the country, are facing a wood crisis to make funeral pyres for the deceased.

Some people who died in this tragic incident in Titabor had to be buried due to lack of wood in the area.

A local in the area said that they were facing a scarcity of wood to make funeral pyres as the number of victims is continuously increasing. He added that it was shameful that they weren’t being able to perform the last rites for these people as per Hindu traditions.

It should be noted more that 162 people have died so far and the number is rising and might increase to 200. The incident occurred on February 22 where numerous people died after consuming spurious liquor.
