GUWAHATI: A Delhi court has extended the judicial custody of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal till May 20 in connection with the money laundering case linked to the alleged liquor policy scam. Special judge Kaveri Baweja of the Rouse Avenue Courts issued the extension order after Kejriwal's current custody term expired in the Enforcement Directorate (ED) case.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court heard arguments today on whether Kejriwal should be granted interim bail in light of the upcoming general elections. During the hearing, senior advocate AM Singhvi, representing Kejriwal, indicated that his client is willing to furnish an undertaking to not "sign any official files" if released on interim bail, in order to allay concerns over potential abuse of power while campaigning. This offer was made in response to the court's concern that allowing Kejriwal to perform his official duties while on bail could have cascading effects.

Despite Singhvi's assurances, the ED opposed the interim bail, arguing that politicians should not be treated differently from common citizens and that the law must apply equally to all. The Supreme Court has reserved its judgement.
