Kapoor Chand Jain Conferred with Asam Sahitya Sabha's Basudev Jalan Award

GUWAHATI: Asam Sahitya Sabha's Basudev Jalan Smriti Award for 2020 will be awarded to Kapoor Chand Jain. 

Jain will be conferred with the award on January 24, informed Padum Rajkhowa, Assam Sahitya Sabha Chief Secretary.

Jain who hails from Palashbari has done his Post Graduation in English and has a degree in Law.  

Jain has also translated several books like Prabandh Bharti, Narad Bhakit Sutra.

It is to be mentioned that earlier this award was also given to Rang Bang Terang, Taburam Taid, Narendra Madun and Ratneswar Basumatary among others.

Kapoor Chand Jain is a well known and leading social figure of Guwahati, particularly in the Jain Community. He is a well known as a versatile writer, thinker and a devoted social worker. His presence is inevitable in any social, religious or educational function of the Marwari community in general and the Jain community in particular.

He was appointed General Secretary of Kamrup Chamber of Commerce in the year 1969. 

Due to his intense interest in the education field, he was appointed General Secretary of Digambar Jain Vidyalaya, a post he held for over 40 years. He also served as President of P.S. Dhanuka Girls Higher Secondary School, Guwahati.

At present he is the Chief Editor of Jain Gazette, a Weekly newspaper of All India Jain Mahasabha, published from Lucknow. 

He is also associated with Asom Sahitya Sabha and at present he has been appointed as Convenor of the Committee on 'Jatia Nyas Poonji' besides being a member of Central Working Committee. He is also the President of Brahmaputra Sahitya Sabha.
