GUWAHATI: Jyothi Yarraji has made history as the first Indian to qualify for the women's 100m hurdles at the Paris Olympics 2024. Since its inclusion in the Olympics in 1972, this event has never featured an Indian athlete until now.

Jyothi, the national record holder, is the only Indian woman to have medaled in the 100m hurdles at the Asian Games, securing a silver last year after successfully contesting a false disqualification. She is also the sole Indian woman to break the 13-second barrier, holding the 15 fastest times ever recorded by an Indian in this category.
Her achievements have inspired three other Indian women to surpass the long-standing national record set by Anuradha Biswal, which Jyothi broke.
Her personal best is 12.78 seconds, a time she equaled earlier this year at the Motonet GP in Finland, despite hitting the final hurdle hard. Recently, she won gold at the Senior Inter-State Athletics Championships, maintaining her undefeated streak on Indian soil.
