Junior Doctors Of JMCH To Strike On August 17 Demanding Justice For Kolkata Rape-murder Incident

 


GUWAHATI: The Junior Doctor's Association (JDA) of Jorhat Medical College & Hospital (JMCH) has announced its support for the nationwide strike called by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA).

According to a press release issued by the JDA of JMCH on Friday, August 16, the strike is set to begin on Saturday, August 17, at 8 AM till their demands are met. This decision comes in response to the recent rape and murder of a junior resident doctor at RG KAR Medical College, West Bengal, on August 8, and a mob attack on protesting doctors on August 14.

The Junior Resident Doctors and interns at JMCH to withdraw from non-emergency services, including Outpatient Services and Elective OT services, while Emergency services will remain functional.

The JDA JMCH is demanding a speedy enquiry by CBI on the incident that occurred on August 8 even if the perpetrators are from within the medical fraternity. They also demand immediate resignation of concerned higher authorities for their incompetence and alleged tampering of evidence, immediate implementation of the Central Protection Act (CPA), with the immediate arrest and punishment of the goons who attacked protesting doctors on the night of 14th August. Apart from this, they also demand a complete revamp of the working conditions of Junior Residents of JMCH including basic amenities, safety and security.
