Jaya Bachchan Alleges Water Contamination From Dead Bodies At Maha Kumbh

GUWAHATI: Samajwadi Party (SP) Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan on Monday, February 3, alleged that the water at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, the sacred confluence hosting the ongoing Maha Kumbh, has been contaminated following the recent stampede that claimed at least 30 lives.

Claiming that bodies of the victims were dumped into the river, and leading to water pollution, Bachchan criticised the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government, alleging a lack of proper arrangements for the common people attending the mega religious gathering.

“Where is the water most contaminated right now? It’s in Kumbh. Bodies have been thrown in the river because of which the water has been contaminated… The real issues are not being addressed,” she said, when asked by reporters.

Bachchan further alleged that while VIPs are receiving special treatment, ordinary devotees have been left without basic amenities. “The common people visiting Kumbh are not receiving any special treatment, and there is no arrangement for them,” she reiterated.

She also questioned the Yogi government’s claims regarding the number of visitors to the Kumbh, expressing doubts about the figures being reported. “They are lying that crores of people have visited the place. How can such a large number of people gather in that place at any given point?” Bachchan said.

Responding to the allegations, BJP MP and former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad informed the Lok Sabha that an investigation into the stampede is underway.
