However, the selection committee has placed its trust in Rana, who has impressed with his performances in domestic cricket and the IPL.
Rana has also made an impact in India's ongoing ODI series against England, taking four wickets in the first two matches. The third ODI is set to be played in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, February 12.
In another squad change, spinner Varun Chakaravarthy has been included, replacing left-handed opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. Jaiswal, who was initially part of the provisional squad, will now serve as a non-travelling reserve along with Mohammed Siraj and Shivam Dube. These three players will remain on standby and travel to Dubai if needed.
India will begin their ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025 campaign against Bangladesh on February 20, followed by a highly anticipated clash with Pakistan on February 23. Their final Group ‘A’ fixture against New Zealand is scheduled for March 2.
