Jasprit Bumrah Regains Top Spot In ICC Test Bowling Rankings

GUWAHATI: India’s fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has climbed back to the top position in the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings. This uptick in the rankings came following his match-winning performance against Australia in the first Test of the ICC World Test Championship series in Perth.

Bumrah surpassed Josh Hazlewood and Kagiso Rabada to regain the top spot for the third time this year, having previously held the position for one-month stretches in February and October.

The Indian bowler’s figures of 5/30 and 3/42 against Australia powered India to a commanding 295-run victory, and it also earned him a career-best 883 rating points, the highest ever by an Indian pace bowler.

Among Indian bowlers, only spinners Ravichandran Ashwin (904) and Ravindra Jadeja (899) have achieved higher points tallies in the ICC rankings.

This win for India also brought rewards for other players. Yashasvi Jaiswal climbed to a career-best second position among Test batters after scoring 161 in the second innings, overtaking Harry Brook and Kane Williamson. Virat Kohli, who scored an unbeaten 100, rose nine places to 13th, re-entering the top 20 after a decade-long streak was briefly interrupted.
