GUWAHATI: Indian space agency ISRO has scripted history by successfully launching a new earth observation satellite.
Radar Imaging Satellite-2B (RISAT-2B), which is designed to enhance the country's surveillance capabilities.
The all-weather radar imaging earth observation satellite was launched from the spaceport of Sriharikota on May 21.

Around 15 minutes after lift-off, the satellite was released into orbit. The satellite is equipped with a synthetic aperture radar that can capture images in any situation.
Apart from surveillance, data from RISAT-2B will be used in various other applications including agriculture, forestry and disaster management. was released into the orbit around 15 minutes after the lift-off.

It would replace the RISAT-2, which was launched in 2009.
With a mission life of five years, RISAT-2 will also be used for military surveillance, ISRO sources told PTI.
