Isharani Baruah Shines Again; India Reaches Quarterfinal In Uber Cup

GUWAHATI: The Indian women's badminton team has secured their place in the quarterfinals of the BWF Thomas and Uber Cup 2024, with a resounding 4-1 win over Singapore in their Group A clash held in Chengdu, China, on Sunday, April 28. After a loss by Ashmita Chaliha in the first match, Isharani Baruah completed the turnaround by winning her match to give India a 2-1 lead.

Following a 4-1 victory over Canada in their opening group match, India faced an early setback when Yeo Jia Min from Singapore defeated Chaliha 21-15, 21-18 in the first singles match.

However, the Indian team quickly bounced back as national champions Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra clinched the doubles rubber, beating Xiao En Heng and Yu Jia Jin 21-15, 21-16. This win leveled the score and set the stage for a remarkable comeback by the Indian team.

Baruah then put India ahead by defeating Insyirah Khan 21-13, 21-16 in just 31 minutes. The Indian dominance continued as former junior national champions Simran Singhi and Ritika Thaker secured a comprehensive 21-8, 21-11 win over Yi Ting Elsa Lai and Michelle Zan in the second doubles match, sealing the tie for India.

Anmol Kharab maintained her unbeaten record in the third and final singles with a solid 21-15, 21-13 win over Lee Xin Yi Megan, adding to India's emphatic victory.

With this win, India has earned a spot in the quarterfinals. They will now face the formidable Chinese team in their last group clash on Tuesday, seeking to continue their winning momentum.
