International Expert Arnold Dix Plays Key Role In Rescue Operation At Silkyara Tunnel

In a remarkable feat, all 41 workers trapped inside the collapsed Silkyara tunnel in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi were successfully rescued on Tuesday night after an ordeal of 17 days. 

The high-stakes rescue operation involved the expertise of international tunnelling authority Professor Arnold Dix, head of the Geneva-based International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association.

Professor Arnold Dix, renowned for his specialisation in underground and transportation infrastructure, played a pivotal role in advising and strategising the complex rescue mission. 

His expertise extends to navigating legal, environmental, political, and ethical challenges associated with underground construction.

As the head of the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association, Professor Dix is recognised globally as a leading authority on underground tunnelling. 

His contributions to the field were acknowledged in 2011 when he received the Alan Neyland Australasian Tunnelling Society bi-annual award for excellence in tunnelling, particularly in the area of tunnel fire safety.

In 2022, Professor Dix was honoured with a Committee Service Award by the National Fire Protection Association of the United States of America. 

Arnold Dix is acknowledged in the U.S. as a subject matter expert in fire-related matters, and his work often involves confidential and intricate projects with a strong emphasis on ethical conduct within the underground context.
