GUWAHATI: An injured elephant has been undergoing treatment at Taltala Birkuchi for nearly a month. The elephant, which was first injured in the forest, was later attacked by other elephants, worsening the injury. Locals have been providing food to the animal but they claimed that there has been no proper treatment from the forest officials.

However, talking to GPlus, a senior official from the Assam Forest Department said, “The elephant was injured on the left hind leg. Initially, the injury occurred in the forest but it was aggravated when other elephants attacked the same area. We have been working with veterinary doctors who are treating the elephant. Due to the severity of the injury, rescuing or transporting the elephant poses major risks. Moving him could lead to further complications or even death because he is in extreme pain."
