GUWAHATI: A joint operation by the Nagaon and Sonitpur police has resulted in the arrest of infamous poacher Rafik Ali (40) from Muslim Chapori, Thelamara, in Sonitpur district on Tuesday, February 18. Originally from Jaramari in Nagaon, Ali is wanted in connection with numerous criminal cases across the Nagaon and Sonitpur districts.

Acting on reliable intelligence and technical analysis, police apprehended Ali and subsequently interrogated him. During questioning, he confessed to hiding a rifle and a pistol. Following this lead, police teams, under the leadership of the Assistant Superintendent of Police (Crime), conducted searches at several locations linked to Ali.
The searches yielded a 12-bore SBBL hammerless knockabout rifle, four live rounds of ammunition, and two empty cartridges, all recovered from a paddy field belonging to Ali. The recovered arms and ammunition have been seized, and legal proceedings are underway.
Authorities have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and further action is expected.
