Launched in December 2024 as a pilot project by the Ministry of Civil Aviation in collaboration with the Airport Authority of India, the cafe aims to provide affordable food options for airport goers.

Items such as water, tea, coffee, and snacks are being offered at reasonable prices — with tea priced at just ₹10 and samosas at ₹20. This initiative has been a runaway success since its inauguration on December 21, which coincided with the centenary celebrations of Kolkata Airport. Reports suggest the cafe serves about 900 visitors daily, amounting to 27,000 passengers in its first month alone.

The launch of the cafe follows MP Raghav Chadha's fiery speech in the Rajya Sabha in early December, which highlighted the exorbitant prices of food and beverages at airports. In his speech, Chadha pointed out, "A water bottle costs Rs 100, and tea is priced at Rs 200-250. Can't the government establish affordable canteens at airports?"

In response to such concerns, the Udaan Yatri Cafe is proving to be a much-needed solution, with passengers praising its reasonable prices and quality service.
