GUWAHATI: The Indian women’s badminton team secured a momentous victory, claiming the gold medal at the Badminton Asia Team Championships 2024 by defeating Thailand with a close score of 3-2 in the final match held in Shah Alam, Malaysia on Sunday. This triumph marked India’s first-ever gold medal in the history of the continental competition, with the men's team previously winning bronze medals in 2016 and 2020.

Anmol Kharb emerged as India’s star performer, defeating a higher-ranked opponent in the decisive rubber to secure the thrilling victory. The title charge commenced with two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu's dominant victory over Supanida Katethong in the opening singles rubber.
Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand continued India's momentum by clinching a crucial win in the second rubber of the tie. Despite a setback in the subsequent matches, India's fate rested on the shoulders of 17-year-old Kharb, who delivered a remarkable performance against Pornpicha Choeikeewong in the final match.

Kharb’s stellar display throughout the competition, including victories against higher-ranked opponents in critical situations, played a pivotal role in India's success.
