Indian-Origin Kash Patel Confirmed As FBI Director

GUWAHATI: Kash Patel, a former national security official and close associate of Donald Trump, has been officially appointed as the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Born to Gujarati immigrant parents, Patel was raised in a Hindu household that strongly upheld cultural and religious traditions. His upbringing involved participation in festivals such as Diwali and Navratri, temple visits, and prayers—elements that have shaped his personal identity.

Despite these deep-rooted traditions, Patel has largely kept his faith separate from his public career, focusing on law, intelligence, and national security.

During his Senate confirmation hearing, Patel reportedly acknowledged his parents in a traditional Hindu gesture of respect by touching their feet. He concluded his statement with the phrase "Jai Shree Krishna," further highlighting his cultural ties.

Patel has also reportedly expressed support for Hindu cultural causes, particularly the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, India. When Western media outlets framed the temple's consecration in the context of Hindu nationalism—often emphasising the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition—Patel reportedly criticized these portrayals as misrepresentations of the temple’s historical and religious importance.

According to Patel, the Ram Mandir symbolizes historical justice and cultural heritage rather than a political issue. His views align with many Hindu Americans who see the temple’s completion as a significant moment in India’s spiritual and cultural history.

While Patel’s Hindu background has garnered interest, his loyalty to Donald Trump has been even more scrutinised. A staunch proponent of Trump’s "America First" policies, Patel has been vocal against the so-called deep state. His appointment as FBI chief comes at a time when Trump’s administration has often been viewed as dominated by Christian conservatives.
However, Patel’s leadership challenges the perception that Trump’s team is exclusively Christian or racially homogenous. His rise to a key position reflects Trump’s prioritization of loyalty and ideological alignment over religious or ethnic background.

Patel’s confirmation as FBI Director marks a significant milestone in his career, which has included roles as a public defender, senior National Security Council official, and intelligence strategist under Trump. His appointment has sparked both praise and criticism, further reflecting the political divide in the U.S.
