Indian Army Mobilises To Rescue Miners Trapped In Assam's Kalamati Coal Mine

 

GUWAHATI: The Indian Army has mobilised an Engineers Task Force, along with divers and medical teams, to assist in the rescue of miners trapped in a coal mine in the Kalamati area of Umrangso, Dima Hasao district, Assam, following a sudden flooding incident on January 6.

The operation is being carried out in close coordination with the civil administration to ensure the safety and prompt rescue of the miners.

The miners, who were caught off guard by the flooding and had no time to escape, are being assisted by a team of Army specialists, including divers and sappers, equipped with the necessary tools to aid in the rescue operation.

Additionally, the Army’s task force, the Assam Rifles have also joined the efforts, with all units working together to rescue the trapped miners. Senior Army officials are overseeing the operation in collaboration with civil authorities.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier requested the Army’s assistance, which was swiftly provided. He also noted, “The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are on their way to the site to support the ongoing rescue efforts.”

The Army's quick response, alongside the coordination of medical teams and rescue units, has been met with gratitude from local authorities. Chief Minister Sarma expressed his appreciation for the deployment of all available resources to ensure the miners' safe return.
