India To Host Inaugural Kho Kho World Cup In January 2025

GUWAHATI: India will host the first-ever Kho Kho World Cup at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi from January 13 to 19 2025, marking a significant milestone for the indigenous sport. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has joined forces with the Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI) to promote and support the historic event.

IOA President PT Usha, in a letter to KKFI President Sudhanshu Mittal, pledged full support to ensure the tournament’s success. “This event celebrates our cultural heritage and promotes traditional sports. We look forward to working with KKFI to make this a memorable and impactful occasion,” she said, emphasising the importance of sportsmanship and global appreciation for Kho Kho.  

Expressing gratitude for the partnership, Mittal said, “The IOA’s support, led by PT Usha, is transformative for Kho Kho. Hosting the first World Cup is a pivotal moment for the sport, and we’re thrilled to see it gain global recognition.”  

The tournament will feature men’s and women’s teams from 24 countries spanning six continents. India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka will lead the Asian contingent, while teams from nations such as Ghana, Kenya, England, Germany, Brazil, and Australia highlight the sport’s growing international appeal.  

With IOA’s backing, the competition aims to elevate Kho Kho’s global stature. The event is expected to inspire athletes and fans, paving the way for broader international acceptance of this traditional Indian sport.
