India loses hosting rights for Davis Cup & Fed Cup due to closure of airspace by Pakistan

GUWAHATI: India has lost its hosting rights for the junior Davis Cup and Fed Cup because of the closure of Pakistan’s air space following the Balakot air strikes.

16 under-16 Davis Cup teams, including Pakistan were supposed to come to India for the annual competition which is also known as the ‘World Cup of Tennis.’

The junior Davis Cup tournament was to be held at the DLTA complex, New Delhi from April 8-13 while the Fed Cup matches were to be held from April 15-20.

According to reports, following the Balakot air strikes, Pakistan’s air space was locked down and airports in India were also on high alert and it was uncertain at the time for how long the situation would have prevailed. Thus, it was decided that the venue would be shifted and India will be able to host tournaments in the future.

Both tournaments will now be held in Bangkok, Thailand.
