GUWAHATI: In a violent face off yesterday, June 16 between Indian and Chinese troops, at least 20 soldiers were killed. Indian intercepts have claimed that 43 Chinese soldiers also either lost their lives or were seriously injured.

However, a statement by the Army on June 16 had confirmed the death of a Colonel and two jawans.

The unfortunate incident took place despite efforts being made to defuse tensions between the two countries at the border.

Army sources said that the soldiers were not shot but were killed in a physical fight on the Indian territory.

As per reports, this is the first violent incident since 1975 where such deaths have been reported on both sides of the border in a face-off between the two countries.

China firmly opposes India’s construction of a key road near the Pangong Tso Lake and construction of another road which connects Darbuk-Shayok-Daulat Beg Oldie road in Galwan Valley.

Despite the resistance, New Delhi has made statements about not being willing to stall border infrastructure projects any further.

The Indian side blamed clashes on the Chinese side who tried to alter the status quo there whereas the Chinese claim that Indian soldiers had crossed the border and entered the Chinese territory.
