Independent candidate from Gauhati Junmoni Devi Khaund comes on horseback to file nomination

GUWAHATI: Junmoni Devi Khaund, an independent candidate for the Gauhati parliamentary seat, came riding on a horse to file her nomination papers for the Lok Sabha Elections 2019. 

With the election date nearing, the candidate left no stone unturned to grab the attention of the onlookers.

As Khound filed her nomination at the Returning Officer Kamal Kumar Baishya’s office in Kamrup, she was accompanied by her supporters.

Khound also donned a traditional headgear and carried a hengdang (traditional sword) of the Ahom community. “I am here to represent the fierceness of our freedom fighter Shaheed Kanaklata Barua and I am here to stay,” she said.

She further added that her priority is to protect the identity of indigenous people in Assam and revive the dysfunctional public sector industries if voted to power.

Junmoni Devi Khaund is the president of Juzaru which is one of the 70 organizations that spearheaded the movement against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 in Assam.
