IMD Predicts Heatwave In Most Parts Of India Until June

GUWAHATI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the country might witness harsh summers due to high temperatures, during the upcoming summer season between April to June. The heatwave episodes are likely to last for around 10-20 days, spreading over various regions of the country.

“The probability forecast for the minimum temperatures indicates that during the hot weather season (AMJ), normal to above-normal maximum temperatures are likely over most parts of the country except some isolated areas in the Northeast and Northwest Himalayan region, where normal to below normal minimum temperatures are likely,” the IMD announced yesterday.

The areas expected to have normal to above normal temperatures also include most parts of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura; along with some parts of Arunachal Pradesh.

Earlier today, the IMD issued a heatwave alert in at isolated places of West Bengal and Odisha from April 3 to 6, even as various parts of Northeast India are expected to witness rain and thunderstorms till April 7.
