IMD Issues Severe Weather Warnings For Assam From May 26-28

GUWAHATI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued detailed warnings and forecasts for Assam, anticipating significant weather disturbances from May 26 to May 28. The state is expected to experience a range of severe weather conditions, including thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and heavy rainfall.

WEATHER FORECAST AND WARNINGS

May 26:

•    Light to moderate rainfall is very likely to occur across most areas of Assam.
•    Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds, with speeds reaching 30-40 kmph, are expected at isolated locations.
•    Specific districts including Kokrajhar, Chirang, Bongaingaon, Barpeta, Baksa, Nalbari, Kamrup (Rural), Kamrup (Metro), Darrang, Sonitpur, Biswanath, Lakhimpur, and Dhemaji are likely to experience heavy rainfall.
•    Thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds reaching up to 30-40 kmph are also anticipated in Udalguri, Morigaon, Nagaon, Hojai, West Karbi Anglong, Karbi Anglong, Golaghat, Jorhat, Majuli, Sibsagar, Charaideo, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Dima Hasao, Cachar, Hailakandi, and Karimganj districts.

May 27:

•    Light to moderate rainfall is expected across most regions of Assam.
•    Squally winds with speeds reaching 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, are forecasted, accompanied by heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places.
•    Districts including Dima Hasao, Cachar, Hailakandi, and Karimganj are at high risk of experiencing these severe conditions.
•    Thunderstorms and lightning with heavy to very heavy rainfall are anticipated in Barpeta, Baksa, Nalbari, Kamrup (Rural), Kamrup (Metro), and West Karbi Anglong. Other areas including Bongaingaon, Bajali, Tamulpur may also see heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. Isolated incidents of gusty winds (30-40 kmph) and thunderstorms are likely in Darrang, Udalguri, Morigaon, Nagaon, Hojai, Karbi Anglong, Golaghat, Sonitpur, Biswanath, Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Majuli, Sibsagar, Charaideo, Dibrugarh, and Tinsukia districts.

May 28:

•    Light to moderate rainfall is expected across most parts of Assam.
•    Thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds (30-40 kmph) and heavy to very heavy rainfall, including extremely heavy rain, are forecasted at isolated places.
•    Barpeta and Baksa districts are particularly vulnerable to extremely heavy rainfall.
•    Districts such as Dhubri, South Salmara Mankachar, Kokrajhar, Chirang, Goalpara, Bongaingaon, Bajali, Tamulpur, Nalbari, Kamrup (Rural), Kamrup (Metro), Darrang, Udalguri, Morigaon, Nagaon, Hojai, West Karbi Anglong, Karbi Anglong, Sonitpur, Biswanath, Dima Hasao, Cachar, Hailakandi, and Karimganj may also experience significant weather events. Furthermore, gusty winds (40-50 kmph) and thunderstorms are likely at isolated places throughout the remaining districts of Assam.
