GUWAHATI: Since the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), the Assam Police and Excise Department have seized a substantial quantity of illicit alcohol and vehicles involved in smuggling operations until April 15. A total of 4.19 lakh litres of illegal liquor, valued at approximately ₹18.21 crores, has been confiscated by the authorities.

Additionally, 14 vehicles allegedly involved in transporting illegal liquor have been seized, with an estimated value of ₹3.87 crores. In addition to the enforcement actions, Assam has implemented stringent measures to curb smuggling activities by establishing Naka check gates at 26 inter-state borders.

These checkpoints aim to curb smuggling activities and prevent the inflow of illicit liquor into the state. The crackdown on illegal liquor is a part of the concerted efforts to create a liquor-free environment in the state.
