IIT Guwahati To Provide Start-Up Funds, Virtual Incubation Through Research And Industrial Conclave

GUWAHATI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has taken steps to encourage start-up and entrepreneurial activities among the youth through a Research and Industrial Conclave (RIC) - Integration 2022 from January 20 to 23, 2022. This initiative has been undertaken by the Institute along with the IIT Guwahati Research Park.

The conclave is an amalgamation of academia, industry, and start-ups. Industrial interaction and entrepreneurial events have been included in the annual research conclave for the first time to boost industrial interactions and start-up activities.

The Technology Incubation Centre of IIT Guwahati allows virtual incubation, where student start-ups will be permitted. New grants and incubation will be provided by the IIT Guwahati Technology Innovation and Development Foundation.

Earlier, only graduates were allowed to have their start-ups incubated at the IIT Guwahati Technology Incubation Centre (IIT Guwahati TIC).

The Institute has signed MoUs with iDEX (Defense Innovation Organisation) and PSUs like Oil India Limited and NRL to fund the start-ups and has tied up with nationalised and private banks for providing loans to the incubated start-ups.

A special scheme has also been made available for women entrepreneurs.

To encourage the entrepreneurial activities among the students, the Director of the Institute, Prof TG Sitharam has constituted a committee headed by the Dean of the Industrial Interactions and Special Initiative (II&SI) to give course credit to the students for their entrepreneurial activities.

The start-ups can apply through the email id: inchargetic@iitg.ac.in. The applications will be evaluated by a committee. Based on the committee’s recommendation, the Dean of the Industrial Interactions and Special Initiative, who is the president of the council of management of TIC, will approve the start-ups for incubation. The start-ups have to choose a faculty mentor. An agreement will be signed. The incubation period will be up to 2 years

For the Research Park Incubation start-ups, MSMEs, and others can apply online on the website https://respark.iitg.ac.in/.
