GUWAHATI: In a recent cultural event, popular singer Zubeen Garg made some controversial anti-Brahmin remarks, following which several cases have been filed against him in various lower courts of Assam demanding apology and punishment.
At the event, Zubeen mentioned that he does not have any jati (caste), dharam (religion) or bhagawan (God).
Zubeen even said that even though he belonged to the Brahmin community, he has thrown away the sacred thread that is worn by all belonging to the aforementioned caste.
It should be noted that following Zubeen’s remarks, Brahmins from Morigaon, Udalguri and Baihata Chariali have conducted an organised protest against the singer and filed separate FIRs against him.
