GUWAHATI: Beltola has been brought to a standstill as heavy rain has caused severe waterlogging and massive traffic jams, leaving commuters and residents struggling to navigate through knee-deep water. The situation has created chaos on the roads, with many vehicles, including school buses and ambulances, stuck in traffic for hours.

Talking to GPlus, a commuter stranded in Beltola said, "We have been stuck here for more than an hour. I had a meeting at 3 on GS Road, but I missed it because of the traffic congestion here."
The impact has been particularly hard on schoolchildren. A school bus driver expressed his concerns, stating, "Schools should have remained closed because of this weather. Now it is very difficult for us to drop all these children off with such traffic congestion and waterlogging."
The traffic woes have been compounded by waterlogging in nearby areas like Survey, contributing to the gridlock.
Talking to GPlus, a traffic official from Hatigaon police station confirmed the situation, saying, "It is because of waterlogging in Survey that there's traffic congestion."
The Gauhati High Court on Wednesday said that it was high time that the problem of waterlogging in Guwahati is solved. It also asked the state government for action plan to resolve the issue that has been tormenting the residents of Guwahati.
The court made the observations on a PIL filed in connection with the waterlogging problem in the city.
