Heavy rainfall likely to occur in next 24 hours in northeast

GUWAHATI: Assam and Meghalaya are likely to witness heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours along with squally winds and thunderstorms.

Thunderstorms accompanied with gusty winds are likely to hit isolated places of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura according to a recent survey of the weather forecast by the Indian Meteorological Department.

Heavy rainfall is expected to occur in isolated places of these areas. 

Northeast is known to be prone to natural calamities during pre-monsoon and monsoon seasons. The recently occurred cyclone Fani also collapsed hundreds of houses in Assam and Meghalaya.

Although northeast witnessed a rainfall deficit of 14 percent during the pre-monsoon seasons, leading to great losses of the farmers, good rainfall might bring prosperity to the farmers.
