GUWAHATI: Amidst rising temperatures across various regions of India, the Ministry of Health convened a review meeting on Wednesday to assess public health preparedness for heat-related illnesses in the country. Chaired by Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Mansukh Mandaviya, the meeting emphasised the critical need for continuous efforts to raise awareness among the public for better management of heatwaves.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Mandaviya underscored the importance of effective measures in addressing heat-related issues. He expressed concern over the lack of accurate data on heat-related incidents and urged for the creation of a central database, collating information from states regarding heatwaves, including fatalities and cases.
Furthermore, Mandaviya emphasised the necessity for prompt action upon receiving weather alerts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) by states. He stressed the significance of timely dissemination of preventive measures to the public, which could significantly mitigate the adverse effects of heatwaves.

Recognising the importance of collaborative efforts in tackling heat-related illnesses, the health minister advised senior officials to engage with state counterparts for better coordination and understanding.
