“He Might Have To Leave BJP Soon”: Assam CM On MLA Mrinal Saikia Congratulating Gaurav Gogoi

GUWAHATI: Addressing the media during a press conference held at the BJP headquarters yesterday, June 4, Assam Cm Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Mrinal Saikia did not congratulate Narendra Modi on his victory, but he did congratulate opposition party winner Gaurav Gogoi on his victory. Owing to this action of his, it is my belief that he would not be a BJP member for too long from now.”

Following Himanta Biswa Sarma's criticism over his congratulatory message for Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi, BJP MLA Mrinal Saikia from Assam’s Khumtai took to Twitter to defend his actions.

He said, “I joined BJP impressed by these great leaders (attached photos of L K Advani, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Murli Manohar Joshi), who taught us to respect others and give due respect to people irrespective of their political affiliation.I  learned today from HCM @himantabiswa sir that, to congratulate someone from the opposition is a crime nowadays.”

It is to be noted that, Mrinal Saikia posted a congratulatory message for INC’s Gaurav Gogoi yesterday, June 4, after he won the Jorhat constituency seat against BJP’s Topon Gogoi.

Taking to X and his official FB page, Mrinal Saikia wrote, “Special congratulations to Gaurav Gogoi for his extraordinary victory in Jorhat Loksabha constituency. This outcome is particularly important in many aspects and it proves that - money, big campaigns, overdue leadership and compassionate speeches don't always help you win the election.”

In response to this post, he had to face criticism from Himanta Biswa Sarma who publicly said that Saikia might soon have to leave the party.

In response to one of the comments that questioned his post, he replied by asking them to check his 8 pm post on Facebook.

On his Facebook post, apart from congratulating Gogoi, he had added, “I also congratulate all the winning candidates of Assam for their success..”
