GUWAHATI: In a recent incident under Hatigaon Police Station, details emerging from a preliminary inquiry shed light on an encounter involving a patrolling party and an inebriated couple during the early hours of January 2, 2024.
The incident occurred at approximately 3 AM when two police officials namely Sushil Kalita and Habijur Rahman of the Bike Patrolling Party discovered Dimple Hazarika and Dipti Pagat in an intoxicated state along Naharani Path within the Hatigaon PS area.
Upon approaching the couple, the police team faced misbehaviour and abusive language. The duo attempted to record videos of the police personnel.
Woman Sub-Inspector Rinki Hazarika, on emergency duty, arrived at the scene. She found Hazarika obstructing the officers from performing their lawful duties. Consequently, he was taken to Hatigaon PS.
Despite offers by the police team to drop Pagat at her place of stay, she insisted on accompanying her husband to the police station. Both were made to sit inside the IO’s room at the police station, as confirmed by CCTV footage.
An alcohol test conducted on Hazarika revealed an elevated level of 120mg/100ml, exceeding the normal limit.
Around 5 AM, the couple was taken for a medical check-up at HM Hospital Hatigaon, with no adverse findings in the medical report. CCTV footage corroborated their presence in the IO’s room for two hours.
Following the completion of formalities, the couple was allowed to go home. The police team's actions have been deemed without malice, and the situation has been resolved amicably.
