GUWAHATI: Guwahati Police detained a motorcycle-bound youth for over-speeding in close proximity to the Chief Minister’s (CM) convoy in Maligaon on Sunday, June 5.
He was handed over to Jalukbari Traffic Police before being released without charges after paying a Rs 2,000 fine for Traffic rule violation.
Police identified the 23-year-old youth as Narayan Sarkar, a resident of the Fatasil area of Guwahati. Jalukbari ACP Bhargav Sanjivan Goswami told G Plus that the youth was coming from the direction of Adabari when he was flagged down moments before the CM’s convoy was to cross Maligaon.
He was fined Rs 2,000 under Section 179(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act (for wilfully disobeying a lawfully given direction).
Jalukbari Police Station Traffic In-Charge Sunil Das told G Plus that the boy was driving with a Learner’s License. He also falsely claimed to be a student, Das said, adding that police were later able to verify that the boy had left his studies after completing his Higher Secondary.
